CXC Sample papers

Here are 2 CXC General Proficiency sample papers, along with the answer keys. These will give you a better understanding of how CXC marks are allocated.

Note that as this is a 2009 sample paper, the problem solving and programming sections, along with some of the theory, is more complex than it is in the current (2010) syllabus [so don't stress too much over it].

Paper 1

Paper 1 answers

Paper 2
Comments:
For queries, if multiple conditions are used, AND must be used in between  each condition (see: 8.9 (d)(i) ).

Paper 2 answers

The Mock Exam papers and their answers will [hopefully] follow by Monday.

About copyright: I downloaded these papers from a site that allowed them for free download (can’t remember where) without any license agreement, so I assume they are free for sharing and use.

2011 5th form online thingie #1

The following Pascal program was given as a demonstration of FOR loops:

program looptest;

var
	counter: integer;

begin
	for counter := 1 to 100 do
		writeln(counter);
end.

A for loop follows this format:

For ← <start value> TO/DOWNTO <end value> Do
Begin
	...
	...
End

A FOR loop is a definite loop (we know how many times it must loop).

A FOR loop loops to or down to a given value.

Pascal concepts:

:= is used for assignment (the same as ← in pseudocode)
The final END statement has a . after it instead of the usual ;

These exercises were given, and are due Tuesday March 15 2011:
Chapter 2 Exercise 6a, 6b, 6c, and 6e

Bigging up other bloggers: Grand Bay Primary’s & Grand Bay Primary Kindergarten’s Blogs

“Two, or more, are better than one” as the saying goes. Today I will be big-ing up two ladies who are setting up blogs with information that will be useful to their schools, and many others.

Firstly there’s a general primary school blog focused on topics applicable to all primary school grade levels. This post is particularly interesting. There’s more stuff to be found at Grand Bay Primary‘s blog of course.

Next, there’s Grand Bay Primary Kindergarten‘s blog. There are many posts, like this one, that focuses on Grade K topics.

*start of my opinion*

I’m not an expert on early childhood education but I can tell that these links will useful for teaching kids. They cover the basics, and that’s the hardest things to learn. None of us remember learning to talk, or walk, etc, and the reason is simple. It was so difficult that remembering that would drive us crazy! (or something like that — you get my drift). Without the basics (first step, basic reading, etc) no one would be able to do the advanced stuff (running, research, etc).

*end of my opinion*

So who’s next? hmm….

New week and back to blogging (-ish)

This blog was created with no real intention of updating it often (therefore the rather sarcastic posts), but then I started Big-ups, and it seems like an interesting way to link to other Dominican bloggers.

Saddly, I don’t have much time to update this blog often so it’s likely that this week will be my last week of blogging.

Well what shall happen next week? Time alone will tell.

Will I continue updating this blog? hmm.. At least ’til the end of the class.

Bigging up other bloggers: Jen

So this lady….hahaha

Ok so my next big-up is to Jen. She’s the facilitator for this workshop I’m a part of. I think the name of the workshop is IT for Dominica 2010, but the name doesn’t matter. What matters is what we learn – and learn we do!
